China invites Moldova to join 'fast train' of development; Chinese Ambassador says new advantageous opportunities open up

China aims to accelerate economic development and modernization of the country, focusing on improving the living conditions of its citizens. In this endeavor, it invites Moldova to join the 'fast train' of Chinese development. The invitation was extended by new Chinese Ambassador to Moldova Dong Zhihua, at a press conference today. The ambassador outlined her mandate priorities, discussed China's strategic development plan for the next five years, and highlighted new opportunities for cooperation with Moldova.

‘’Together with my colleagues at the embassy, I will fully dedicate myself to strengthening the traditional friendship between our countries, expanding pragmatic cooperation in all areas, and advancing bilateral relations to a new level, benefiting both peoples,’’ said Dong Zhihua.

'More Space and More Chances for Relations with Moldova'

The ambassador highlighted the relevance of China's strategic development plan (2026–2030), approved in October in Beijing, for the prosperity of the country and strengthening relations with Moldova.

‘’This plan will open new opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation globally and will create, at the same time, more space and more chances for development of the relations between China and Moldova.

The period of the fifteenth five-year plan will play the role of linking past with future, representing a crucial stage for consolidating foundations and boosting  efforts on all fronts. China will continue to promote high-quality development, deepen high-level openness, focus on efficiently managing its own affairs and firmly advance on the path to achieving common prosperity for all, so that by 2035, China's Gros Domestic Product (GDP) per capita reaches the level of medium-high development countries. In this process, China will continue to share the benefits of development and invites Moldova to join the 'fast train' of Chinese development,’’ said Dong Zhihua.

The ambassador emphasized China's achievements in economic development and poverty eradication, noting that authorities had managed to lift about 100 million rural inhabitants out of poverty, with the objective by 2035 being China's modernization.

China Could Become Moldova's Second Largest Trading Partner

During the fifteenth five-year plan period, China will continue to intensify efforts to ensure and improve the living conditions of its population, develop cities as international consumption centers and promote tourism.

The ambassador said that cooperation with Moldova would be strengthened in such areas as trade, investments, industry, tourism, health, agriculture, green development, artificial intelligence and the digital economy.

‘’Moldovan wines are already well-known and appreciated by Chinese consumers, and China is open to importing more quality Moldovan products, such as grape seeds, cherries or honey. This year, the two parties officially signed the protocol on the export to China of grape and sunflower seed flour from Moldova, and China has realistic chances to become Moldova's second-largest trading partner,’’ Dong Zhihua emphasized.

Dong Zhihua: 'We Will Continue to Promote Interpersonal Exchanges'

The ambassador stressed that bilateral relations were not limited to the economic domain, but also include interpersonal exchanges.

‘’My colleagues and I at the Embassy will continue to promote interpersonal exchanges between our countries, so that the courage of Stefan cel Mare, the energy and joy of the hora, and the warmth of the soup will reach as many families in China as possible.

China is ready, together with Moldova, to fully exploit the new opportunities provided by implementing the fifteenth five-year plan, to share the benefits of development, and to constantly promote new progress in bilateral relations and mutually beneficial cooperation, for the benefit of both peoples,’’ concluded the ambassador.

Dong Zhihua is the 11th ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Moldova. On December 3, the ambassador presented her letters of credence to President Maia Sandu, marking the official beginning of her mandate and conveying the cordial greetings of President Xi Jinping and the best wishes on behalf of the Chinese government and people to the authorities and citizens of  Moldova.

China's Relations with Moldova

China was among the first Asian states to recognize the independence of the Republic of Moldova and establish diplomatic relations since 1992.

The bilateral legal framework includes 61 signed agreements in such areas as commercial and economic collaboration, mutual protection of investments, avoidance of double taxation on income and capital taxes, air services, consular affairs, youth, education, tourism, health, culture, etc., and 5 draft agreements.

China has reaffirmed its support for Moldova's development and respects its choice to join the European Union. At the same time, China supports Moldova's efforts to strengthen its independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
