DOC // Five Members of Operational Group of Russian Troops stripped of Moldovan citizenship
President Maia Sandu today signed a decree concerning the withdrawal of citizenship for five members of the Operational Group of Russian Troops (OGRT) stationed on the left bank of the Dniester.
The individuals from the OGRT are: Oleg Boț, Vladimir Coblai, Pavel Morozov, Vladimir Osipenco, and Maxim Vasilatii.
“The measure was applied, because these individuals are enrolled in the Russian troops illegally stationed in the Transnistrian region (OGRT - ed.)”, said the spokesperson for the Presidency, Igor Zaharov.
At the same time, through another decree, the Moldovan citizenship was revoked for Igor Frolov, born in Moldova, and Davor Trajkovic, born in Serbia, who had acquired citizenship fraudulently.
The decrees took effect upon signing and can be contested in court.
According to the Moldovan legislation, citizenship can be withdrawn from individuals who voluntarily enlist in the armed forces of a foreign state, acquire citizenship fraudulently, or commit serious acts that harm the state.
The Operational Group of Russian Troops (OGRT) is a Russian military unit of approximately 1,500 soldiers stationed in the Transnistrian region of Moldova. Set up after the breakup of the Soviet Union as the successor to the 14th Army, its official role is to guard the ammunition depot at Cobasna, where tens of thousands of tons of armaments represent a potential threat to the entire region.
