Draft amendment to Prosecutor's Office Law registered in Moldovan parliament
Chisinau, 10 August /MOLDPRES/- Law on Prosecutor's Office could be amended so that the Superior Council of Prosecutors could sanction the activity of the Prosecutor General.
Minister of Justice Sergiu Litvinenco said he registered in the Parliament a bill that comes to amend the Law on Prosecutor's Office as including measures to evaluate and sanction the Prosecutor General at the proposal of the Council Superior Prosecutors.
The official said that at this moment a possible sanction of the general prosecutor is not possible. "The registered bill establishes a balance between the rights and obligations of the Attorney General. The current provisions in the law on prosecutor's office do not hold the general prosecutor accountable, "Litvinenco said.
According to him, the amendments that will be made to the Law on Prosecutor's Office do not affect the independence of this institution, "the measure of sanctioning the activity of the General Prosecutor being taken by the Superior Council of Prosecutors".
Litvinenco noted that the need for such a bill is given by the result of the snap parliamentary elections, in which citizens voted against injustice, "including against the inactivity of the prosecutor general."
