First parliamentary vote cast in Japan by Moldovan student

The parliamentary elections in the Republic of Moldova began with the opening of the polling station at the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Japan. The first person to exercise their right to vote was Ana Teișanu, a student at the University of Tsukuba, Tokyo.

After the national anthem was played, the young woman cast her ballot, stating that for her, participating in the election is "a responsibility and an act of trust in the future of Moldova."

"I voted for peace, development and a prosperous Moldova, on its European path. My appeal is simple: go out and vote if you love your country. There is no second round – only the unique chance to decide the future for the next four years, today," said Teișanu.

She emphasized the role of the diaspora and youth in the election.

"Moldova of tomorrow will be as strong as we believe in it today."

In total, 301 polling stations have been opened abroad in 41 countries. Citizens can vote with a passport, identity card, even if the document has expired.
