Former prime minister launched campaign for head of state
Chisinau, Sep 22 /MOLDPRES/- Former prime minister Ion Chicu, candidate for president of the Republic of Moldova on behalf of the Party for Development and Consolidation of Moldova (PDCM) has launched his presidential campaign. The launching event took place today in Chisinau.
He came up with a number of promises including reducing the prices of medicines, including through the liberalization of the pharmaceutical market and the revision of the legal framework in this field, facilitating access to health services for the population, implementing the most democratic and transparent regulations on the activity of non-governmental organizations, ensuring access to personal assistance for lonely elderly people in need of care, guaranteeing the right to social service and so on.
"This year's presidential election is the most important exercise for the country for the next four years and for the fate of the country's citizens. These elections will determine to whom the country will belong in the future - to its own people, to us, to Moldovans together with brothers of different ethnicities or to foreigners. PDCM understands very well the importance of these elections for the country," the candidate said.
Ion Chicu created the Party for Development and Consolidation of Moldova in March 2021, together with former ministers Viorica Dumbrăveanu and Anatol Usatîi. He began his political career in 2005, during the communist government, when he was appointed head of the General Directorate for Structural Reforms of the Ministry of Economy and Trade.
Elections for the President of the Republic of Moldova will be held on 20 October 2024, the same day as the referendum in which citizens will be asked whether they agree with the country's accession to the European Union.
