German Bundestag MPs pay official visit to Moldova
A delegation of the Parliamentary Group of Friendship with Moldova, Romania and Bulgaria from the Bundestag (parliament) of Germany is paying an official visit to Moldova on July 16-17. The agenda of the visit includes meetings with the parliament’s leadership and representatives of the government.
The delegation is headed by Chair of the Parliamentary Friendship Group Raimond Scheirich and is made up of lawmakers Bettina Hagedorn and Julian Joswig.
During the visit, the German parliamentarians will meet with Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu. They will also meet members of the Parliamentary Group of Friendship with Germany, headed by deputy Alic Baraboi, as well as with members of the Commission for European Integration, chaired by deputy Marcel Spatari. The agenda also includes a meeting with acting Deputy Prime Minister Valeriu Chiveri.
According to the parliament, the discussions will focus on Germany’s support for the European path of Moldova and on opportunities to expand bilateral cooperation in such areas as trade, investment, information and communications technologies, innovation, manufacturing, logistics and tourism.
Germany is one of the main development partners of Moldova. In recent years, the support provided by the German authorities has contributed to strengthening the country’s security, defence and institutional resilience. This includes assistance for developing defence capabilities and modernizing the National Army, cooperation in the field of internal affairs, support for secure communications, as well as strategic expertise for implementing reforms and advancing the process of Moldova’s accession to the European Union.
