President on Ukraine Statehood Day: Thank you for reminding us what it means to fight for freedom
President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu took part today, July 15, in Kyiv, in a ceremony dedicated to Ukraine Statehood Day, at the invitation of her Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The event was also attended by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, the President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, as well as other European leaders.
In her speech, the head of state paid tribute to the resilience of the Ukrainian people in the face of Russian aggression and reaffirmed the full solidarity of the Republic of Moldova with Ukraine. “Every day, the world witnesses something extraordinary. We see Ukrainians choosing courage over fear,” the head of state said. “We see doctors saving lives under bombardment. We see rescuers who, after each attack, tirelessly search for survivors under the rubble and comfort those in mourning. We see soldiers defending their homeland with boundless courage.”
“The people of the Republic of Moldova stand with you, with admiration, with compassion, and with unwavering solidarity. And we will never stop believing that Ukraine will prevail and that good will triumph over evil,” the President further stressed. In closing, the head of state conveyed: “Thank you for reminding us what it means to fight for freedom. Thank you for showing the world that bombs cannot turn dignity into submission.”
Maia Sandu’s visit to Kyiv continues with participation in the Ukraine – Southeast Europe Summit, where issues related to the security situation, support for Ukraine, and the European path of candidate states in the region will be discussed.
The head of state’s trip takes place just two days after our country joined the Coalition of Willing, a group of over 30 states, mostly European, that have joined forces to help Ukraine achieve a ceasefire and, subsequently, a just peace, preventing a new aggression.
