Head of State continues consultations on nominating candidate for Prime Minister

President Maia Sandu will hold consultations today with the parliamentary faction of the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) regarding the nomination of a candidate for the position of prime minister, with a view to forming a new Government. The consultations will begin at 10:00 at the Presidency, and at 11:00 the head of state will give a press briefing.

PAS leader Igor Grosu announced yesterday that the parliamentary faction has decided to propose Vasile Tofan for the position of prime minister. He emphasized that the decision was taken after several discussions within the faction, during which Vasile Tofan presented his vision and plan for the future Cabinet of Ministers.

The PAS leader noted that Vasile Tofan has experience in investments, business and management, gained both in the Republic of Moldova and abroad. He is currently an investor at Horizon Capital, an investment fund focused on Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova, and has coordinated investments in companies such as Purcari, Glass Container Company and maib.

Previously, Vasile Tofan worked in consulting at Monitor Group and in corporate development at Philips in Amsterdam, and is a graduate of Erasmus University Rotterdam and Harvard Business School. Recently, Vasile Tofan publicly presented a reform program focused on making state institutions more efficient, boosting investments and exports, reducing bureaucracy, reforming the pension system and reorganizing local public administration.

The consultations for nominating a candidate for prime minister were convened after the resignation of Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu. According to the Constitution, after the resignation of the prime minister, the Government only carries out tasks related to the administration of public affairs until a new Cabinet of Ministers is invested.

Maia Sandu invited the parliamentary factions to talks on Friday and Saturday. The opposition factions boycotted yesterday's consultations. Only Democracy at Home faction came to the Presidency, spoke with the press, but did not enter the consultations.
