Secretary General of the Government Alexei Buzu has presented the second Voluntary National Report of Moldova on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, at the headquarters of the United Nations in New York.

The document shows the progress made by the country during the period 2020–2024, in a context marked by overlapping crises — the COVID-19 pandemic, the energy crisis, high inflation and the effects of Russia’s war against Ukraine.

In his address, Alexei Buzu noted that progress was possible even in times of deep uncertainty, when resilience is supported by reforms, strong institutions, social solidarity and effective partnerships.

“The experience of Moldova shows that we can move forward even in the most difficult circumstances. Through reforms, European integration, investments in people and cooperation with our partners, we can build a more prosperous, more inclusive and more resilient state,” said the secretary general of the government.

The report highlights progress in the areas of social protection, health, education, digitalization, energy security, gender equality and the strengthening of democratic institutions. At the same time, the document points out fields where additional efforts are needed, including reducing the gaps between rural and urban areas, stimulating research and innovation, improving data quality and accelerating the green transition.

An important message of the presentation focused on the role of European integration in accelerating sustainable development. The reforms carried out in the process of accession to the European Union directly contribute to the modernization of public administration, enhancing economic competitiveness, environmental protection and improving services for citizens.

For the coming period, Moldova aims to continue investing in people, to accelerate the green and digital transition, to reduce inequalities and to strengthen public institutions.

The Voluntary National Report was developed through a participatory process involving public authorities, civil society, youth, development partners and United Nations agencies.
