Deputy Prime Minister to participate in Moldova – EU Intergovernmental Conference on External Relations Cluster

Acting Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi will participate in Brussels, from 14 to 16 July, in the Republic of Moldova – European Union Intergovernmental Conference on the opening of negotiations for Cluster 6 External Relations.

Mihai Popșoi will attend the event as a member of the national delegation of the Republic of Moldova, in the context of the country’s accession process to the European Union.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs coordinates Chapter 31 Foreign, Security and Defence Policy and manages the component on international development cooperation and humanitarian assistance within Chapter 30 External Relations.

During the working visit to Brussels, the head of Moldovan diplomacy will hold meetings with the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice-President of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas, with the Deputy Secretary-General for Political Affairs of the European External Action Service (EEAS), Olof Skoog, as well as with vice-presidents and members of the European Parliament. The discussions will focus on developments in the European integration process of the Republic of Moldova, strengthening cooperation between Chișinău and Brussels, regional security, as well as the support provided to our country in the context of current challenges.

At the same time, Mihai Popșoi will participate in the meeting of the European Parliament’s Subcommittee on Security and Defence (SEDE) and in the public event “Foreign Policy of the Republic of Moldova: Challenges and Perspectives”, organized by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation. In addition, the Deputy Prime Minister will be one of the speakers at the high-level debate on the enlargement of the European Union, organized by the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC).

The event will take place within the panel “Building a Safer, More Resilient and More Secure Europe” and will bring together European officials and representatives of candidate states. The debate will open in the presence of the European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement, Marta Kos, and the President of the European Economic and Social Committee, Séamus Boland.

Cluster 6 External Relations is part of the structure of the accession negotiations with the European Union and covers areas such as the common foreign and security policy, trade policy and the Union’s external relations. The opening of negotiations for this group of chapters represents a new stage in the process of the Republic of Moldova’s accession to the EU.

The Republic of Moldova opened the first accession negotiation cluster with the European Union – Cluster 1 Fundamental Values – on 15 June 2026, during the second EU – Republic of Moldova Intergovernmental Conference, held in Luxembourg.
