LIVE // President holds press briefing following consultations on nominating candidate for prime minister
President Maia Sandu is holding a press briefing following consultations on nominating the candidate for the position of prime minister. The head of state held discussions today with the parliamentary faction of the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS).
PAS leader Igor Grosu announced that the parliamentary faction has decided to propose Vasile Tofan for the position of prime minister. He emphasized that the decision was taken after several discussions within the faction, during which Vasile Tofan presented his vision and plan for the future Cabinet of Ministers.
The consultations for nominating the candidate for the position of prime minister were convened after the resignation of Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu. According to the Constitution, after the resignation of the prime minister, the Government only performs duties related to the administration of public affairs until a new Cabinet of Ministers is invested.
Maia Sandu invited the parliamentary factions for discussions on Friday and Saturday. The opposition factions boycotted the consultations yesterday. Only Democracy at Home faction came to the Presidency; they spoke with the press but did not take part in the consultations.
