Germany, Romania join forces to support Moldova against Russian threats

Moldova was one of the central topics of the official meeting between the President of Romania Nicusor Dan and Federal Chancellor of Germany Friedrich Merz, which took place in Berlin today. The two leaders emphasized their common commitment to supporting Moldova in the face of destabilization attempts on behalf of the Russian Federation and to bringing Moldova closer to the European Union.

“We are coordinating our views on Moldova. We are partners of the platform for Moldova – a joint initiative – and, in these decisive months, we are jointly contributing to ensure that this country is not destabilized by Russia. We are working closely to bring Moldova closer to the European Union,” Chancellor Merz said at the joint news conference.

In the context of the war in Ukraine and increasing geopolitical pressures in the region, Germany and Romania are strengthening their collaboration in security and defense industry, as well as supporting countries on the path of European integration, such as Moldova and Ukraine.

President of Romania Nicusor Dan also reaffirmed his firm support for Moldova, emphasizing that “backing Moldova in its European integration process is a priority” and that Romania would continue to act in partnership with Germany for the stability and prosperity of the region.

The visit takes place at a crucial moment for the future of Moldova, which is facing hybrid pressures on behalf of Russia and needs constant international support to maintain its pro-European course, according to www.digi24.ro.
