Moldovan parliament speaker attends opening of Alexandru Mosanu lecture room at State University of Moldova

Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu has attended the inauguration of the Alexandru Mosanu lecture room at the Moldova State University (USM). The event, organized on the eve of the birthday of departed university professor Alexandru Mosanu, was an occasion to honor the memory of the first parliament speaker of of Moldova, who would have turned 93 on July 19.

"I had the honor to know Alexandru Mosanu as a university professor. He was the person who inspired us, explained to us the importance of historical truth, fostered our ability to think critically, to be vocal and to stand up for what is right. Through this lecture room, we pay tribute to him and keep alive the memory of a true mentor and a man of exemplary integrity," said Igor Grosu.

The ceremony took place in the Central Block of USM, in Auditorium 145, a space redesigned and renamed in honor of professor Alexandru Mosanu—historian, visionary intellectual, and promoter of national values. The event was also a symbolic gesture of recognition for his academic and political legacy, as well as a tribute to a personality who shaped the recent history of the Republic of Moldova.

The event was attended by members of the University's leadership, lawmakers of the first legislature, teaching staff, researchers, students, disciples, and friends of the academician, as well as his son.

Alexandru Mosanu (1932–2017) was a historian, PhD in historical sciences, university professor, and full member of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova. He was one of the central figures of the national revival movement and the first Parliament Speaker of Moldova (1990–1993). Mosanu played a decisive role in the drafting of the Declaration of Independence of the Republic of Moldova and promoted democratic values throughout his entire career.
