EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting: Romania's foreign affairs minister expresses support for advancement of Moldova's, Ukraine's accession to EU

Romania's Minister of Foreign Affairs Oana Toiu has expressed support for the advancement of the accession of Moldova and Ukraine to the European Union, during a meeting of foreign ministers from EU member states held in Brussels.

The Romanian foreign affairs minister highlighted the complex situation in Moldova amid intensified hybrid actions by Russia targeting Chisinau.

The official welcomed “the adoption, at Romania's initiative, of ten new listings within the EU's regime of restrictive measures, given the destabilizing actions in Moldova, as well as two new listings in the regime of restrictive measures, considering Russia's destabilizing actions abroad, with the individuals and entities concerned being subject to travel bans and asset freezes.”

At the same time, Minister Toiu emphasized “the importance of continuing the support of EU and member states and reiterated the backing for advancing the EU accession process.”

The meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council has recently been held in Brussels.  At the event, the EU foreign ministers discussed the security context in the region, new opportunities for cooperation in the security field and strengthening resilience against hybrid threats.
