Government reacts to PSRM threat of motion

The government recommends that deputies from the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova (PSRM) read the legislation before requesting that the prime minister appear in Parliament to present the annual activity report. The reaction comes after Socialist leader Igor Dodon threatened that the party would initiate a motion against the government if Prime Minister Vasile Tofan does not appear before Parliament in plenary by the end of the year to deliver the report.

Government spokesperson Dumitru Ciorici emphasized that the legislation clearly stipulates that the prime minister’s annual report is presented to Parliament in the following year.

“We recommend that PSRM deputies read the law, which clearly stipulates that the prime minister’s annual report is presented to Parliament in the following year. We also urge them to abandon political smokescreens and focus on matters that matter to citizens,” Dumitru Ciorici said.

Earlier, Igor Dodon announced that PSRM would initiate a motion against the government if the prime minister does not come before Parliament in plenary by the end of the year to present information about the government’s activities. At the same time, the Socialist leader called on the other opposition factions to support the initiative.

The dispute began after Prime Minister Vasile Tofan presented an overview of his first 100 days in office at a press conference held at the government headquarters. Opposition representatives also attended the event and insisted on asking the head of government questions.
