Judges, prosecutors trained in Chisinau for resolving electoral disputes

Over 30 judges and prosecutors have participated in a professional training session dedicated to examining and resolving electoral disputes, organized in anticipation of the parliamentary elections due on September 28.

The event was conducted by the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), in partnership with the National Justice Institute and the Council of Europe Office from Chisinau.

According to CEC, at the training, participants analyzed the latest international standards on the use of digital technologies and artificial intelligence in electoral processes, as well as the jurisprudence of the European Court of Human Rights in electoral matters. At the same time, the national legislative framework was thoroughly discussed, with a focus on regulations applicable to this year's parliamentary elections.

The organizers specified that the session had been aimed at strengthening the competencies of magistrates in resolving electoral disputes, promoting a consistent judicial practice that aligns with international standards, as well as enhancing the role of judicial institutions in guaranteeing the integrity and legality of the electoral process.

Also, the participants discussed the specifics of examining cases in electoral administrative litigation, procedures for filing actions, courts’ competencies and the enforcement of the relevant normative framework.

The event was conducted with the support of the Council of Europe, within the Improving Electoral Practices in Moldova Project, Phase II.
