Romania promises to digitize customs with Moldova: joint inspections, investments in automatic scanners

President of Romania Nicusor Dan, during a visit to Chisinau, at a TV programme on a private channel, has said that the measures adopted recently to streamline traffic at the border with Moldova considerably reduced waiting times at the customs between the two countries.

“The result is visible: last week, the average waiting time was 30 minutes in both directions, compared to two hours or even two and a half hours previously,” noted the Romanian head of state.

According to him, the implemented solutions included extending working hours to 24 hours at some customs points, organizing joint border inspections, increasing staff and introducing modern technologies.

“Investments in automatic scanners will come next, in order to eliminate excessive manual checks,” added Nicusor Dan.

The Romanian president emphasized that the process of digitizing customs was underway, and at the governmental level, there is a team coordinated by the Romanian PM, which manages the problem of border with Moldova.

The president of Romania paid a visit to Chisinau on August 31, where he participated in more events dedicated to the Romanian language.
