Romanian president says Romania's security depends on regional stability, Moldova's European path

President of Romania Nicusor Dan, at a TV broadcast, has said that Romania would continue to support Moldova on all fronts—diplomatically, economically, and in its European path—highlighting the deep cultural and historical ties between the two countries.

“Romania as a state will support Moldova as a state. This is categorical, because we are united by this common culture,” said Dan.

Yet, the president of Romania warned about possible risks in the case of a pro-Russian government in Chisinau.

“A pro-Russian government can bring nuisances, just as it has done in the past 35 years. From the perspective of the war in Ukraine, this could mean additional Russian troops in Transnistria and pressures on Ukraine, affecting the joint European path of the two states,” Dan said.

Nicusor Dan also said that Romania's security was directly linked to regional stability and Moldova's European trajectory.

“We are in a much more dynamic and dangerous world than 15 years ago. You can't live without a system of alliances and Ukraine is the key to Romania's security, being a neighbor of Russia in the context of the war in Ukraine,” the president stressed.

He emphasized that the current period represented the best stage of relations between Chisinau and Bucharest, both diplomatically and through investments and openings of concrete projects.

The president of Romania paid a visit to Moldova on August 31, where he participated in more events dedicated to the Romanian language.
