Large corruption cases, activity of prosecutor's office on CSS agenda
Chisinau, 10 August /MOLDPRES/- The Supreme Security Council (CSS) will present a set of recommendations to law enforcement agencies, especially the General Prosecutor's Office and to those in profile, in order to assess and rectify the situation regarding large corruption cases and prevent people from fleeing the country. President Maia Sandu made the statement after today's CSS meeting.
"We examined the situation regarding the measures taken by the competent bodies regarding the prevention of the risk of evading the accused persons from criminal liability in cases of high corruption and we found that the prosecutor's office is on vacation, both literally and figuratively. However, the only representative of the General Prosecutor's Office, present at the meeting, could not give the necessary answers to the questions asked by the members of the Council ", the head of state said.
In this context, Maia Sandu said that the selective procedures of the prosecutors allowed in 2019 the immediate flight from the country of Vladimir Plahotniuc, Serghei Iaralov, Ilan Şor and Constantin Botnari, and the lack of progress has already allowed the flight of Vladimir Andronachi, Gheorghe Cavcaliuc and Veaceslav Platon. "The list of those involved in large corruption cases is long and in order to prevent the criminal groups from evading responsibility, it is necessary to perfect the legal framework and evaluate the activity of prosecutors," the president said.
"The recommendations of the Supreme Security Council, which will be made public today, provide for the assessment of the risks of the activity of prosecutors dealing with high corruption cases, because the evasion of duties and the inefficiency of their exercise are equally serious. Or, based on these estimates, the Ministry of Justice will have to come up with proposals regarding the existing legal framework, and the Parliament to rule on the activity of the General Prosecutor's Office ", concluded Maia Sandu.
