VIDEO // Moldovan PM conveys New Year message
Moldova is taking decisive steps on the path to European integration and the place of the country is within the European Union. Even though he did not intend to make a performance report related to specific data and deadlines, Prime Minister of Alexandru Munteanu conveyed to the citizens that the country has gained an important voice at the regional level and that its place is in the European Union. On the occasion of the New Year 2026, the prime minister wished Moldovans peace, calm and happy holidays with their loved ones.
In a video message posted on social networks, Munteanu emphasized that the two months of his office as prime minister have been short, but quite intense. The PM noted that, during this transition between years, he wanted to share his impressions with the citizens.
"Two short, but extremely intense months full of experiences and challenges. I had over 400 meetings, discussions and events. Without exaggeration, time acquires a different meaning, because you realize that each minute, each meeting carries a real responsibility towards all citizens of Moldova. In these two months, the government has adopted a budget of responsible investments for the 2026 year, a budget oriented towards investments, economic growth and a better life for people. We have succeeded in creating a team of integral, dedicated and energetic professionals and continue to advance in all areas. On the external stage, we have taken concrete steps on our path to the EU. At a technical level, negotiations were opened on two chapters. This is the result of enormous work by colleagues in institutions, bringing Moldova closer to the place it deserves in the great European family," Munteanu said.
At the same time, the prime minister highlighted the importance of broad dialogue with the society, noting consultations with entrepreneurs, investors, local authorities, media, civil society and opposition representatives. He said that the government was strengthening foreign relations, both through visits to European capitals and by receiving foreign officials in Chisinau, in order to consolidate the country's European path and attract investments. In the context, he announced the preparations, together with the European Commission, for an investment conference to be held in the spring of 2026.
"Building a modern and strong state that provides security and prosperity doesn't happen overnight, but I can say with full responsibility: Moldova is moving forward. I thank those who support us and also thank those who offer constructive criticism. Sincere criticism is a valuable fuel for responsible governance. Using this opportunity, I wish you happy holidays with your loved ones. Good health, may dangers stay away from us, and may we have peace, calm and trust in the future," the prime minister added.
The cabinet led by Alexandru Munteanu was sworn in office on October 31, following the parliamentary elections held in last autumn. The government’s programme adopted by the Munteanu Government is titled, EU, Peace, and Development.
