Moldovans to benefit from phone, internet services in EU without additional fees; Moldova joins Roam Like at Home
Moldova's citizens traveling to EU member states as of January 1, 2026, will be able to make calls, send messages and use mobile internet at the same rates, without additional roaming costs, just like at home. This will be possible as the country joins the EU's 'Roam Like at Home' (RLAH) scheme.
The elimination of roaming charges in the EU will allow Moldovan citizens to communicate at national rates in the European space, marking a concrete step towards integration into the Single Market. They will also enjoy the same quality and speed as at home.
The benefits of Moldova's joining the EU's 'Roam Like at Home' regime were explained by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization Eugeniu Osmochescu.
‘’Yes, indeed, it's great news. We, those who hold cellular packages from Moldova, will not pay additional costs, as we did until December 31, being in roaming in the European Union member states. Hence, rules exactly similar to those in the European Union will apply. So, the tariffs will be similar to those in the European Union, not from Moldova, as they are higher at the moment,’’ Deputy Prime Minister Eugeniu Osmochescu said in response to a question from MOLDPRES.
The decision for Moldova to join the European Union's Roam Like at Home area, starting January 1, 2026, was approved by the European Union Council in last summer.
The country's accession to the EU's Roam Like at Home (RLAH) regime follows the completion of the process of transposing the European roaming legislative framework into national legislation. This stage marks a significant step in the country's digital integration into the common European space of electronic communications.
The decision is part of the EU's commitment to progressively integrate Moldova into European structures and standards, providing concrete benefits to Moldovan citizens and businesses.
Presently, Moldovan users already benefit from reduced roaming rates as a result of an agreement signed in 2024 between Moldovan authorities and the EU.
