PM says government to continue to increase support for veterans who defended Moldova's independence

Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu today had a discussion with war veterans, focusing on the state support provided to this social category and future priorities in the field of social protection. The PM emphasized that the government stayed committed to gradually correcting a historical injustice against those who had fought for the defense of peace, independence and freedom of Moldova.

According to the prime minister, in recent years, there have been significant increases in the monthly allocations given to war veterans. Thus, financial support increased from 500 lei in 2021 to 1,770 lei in 2025, and for veterans with disabilities, the allowance was raised from 575 lei to 2,254 lei.

Moreover, Alexandru Munteanu reminded that, this year, the Law on War Veterans had come into force, a legislative act that strengthens the legal framework for social protection and recognition of their merits.

"We know it's not enough and that continuous increases and care are needed. However, our actions clearly prove the desire to rectify a historical injustice for veterans who fought for the country's integrity and to gradually increase their income," the prime minister said.

The PM also emphasized the essential role of veterans in strengthening national identity, noting that the lessons and experiences shared by them are fundamental for educating new generations.

In the context, Alexandru Munteanu assured that the cabinet would continue to support war veterans and identify additional resources to enhance social protection, in order to ensure more dignified living conditions for this category of citizens.
