VIDEO // Moldovan PM says Ukrainian spirit has been victorious for four years, even though tragedies are unimaginable

The Ukrainian spirit has been victorious for four years, even though the tragedies are unimaginable. It has been 1,462 days since Ukrainians have been fighting for peace, freedom and territorial integrity. Moldova stays in solidarity and stands with Ukraine and the Ukrainian people. Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu today made statements to this effect, on the occasion of four years since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The PM said that Russia’s war was killing Ukrainian women, children and elderly people not because they pose any threat, but in order to break their spirit. The official also shared the story of a young woman from Ukraine who had lost her life in the war.

“The war awakens many vile feelings—cowardice, cruelty—but also a special nobility. For me, the first personal shock was when a young woman I knew, who was working for an IT company in Ukraine, her name was Anastasia, stayed in Kyiv and just one week after the beginning of the war, she went to a shelter to feed abandoned animals and was brutally killed by the Russian aggressors. She was one of the first victims and the shock of this loss has stayed with me, with my family, with my friends’ families forever,” said Alexandru Munteanu.

The prime minister emphasized that Moldova remained in solidarity and stood with Ukraine and the Ukrainian people.

Ukraine was attacked by the Russian Federation on 24 February 2022 and continues to face major security, humanitarian and economic consequences in the region, including for Moldova, which has hosted hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian refugees since the beginning of the conflict.
