Moldovan parliament speaker has meeting with Lithuanian MPs

Moldova has much to learn from Lithuania when it comes to joining the European Union. Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu has made statements to this effect, who today met representatives of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of Lithuania’s Seimas, presently on a visit to Chisinau.

Speaker Igor Grosu praised the excellent political dialogue between Moldova and Lithuania. At the same time, he expressed hope that the parliaments of the two countries would work closely together as Moldova advances on its European path.

“I thanked Lithuania for the support it has given our country, as well as for the assistance provided to Ukraine. Four years after Russia’s invasion, it is essential that we continue to help Ukraine withstand and protect peace on the continent,” said Igor Grosu.

The Lithuanian MPs also met Deputy Parliament Speaker, Chair of the foreign policy commission Doina Gherman, together with the members of the commission, as well as Chair of Group of Friendship with Lithuania Ion Babici and its members.

The officials discussed strengthening parliamentary cooperation, supporting the European path of Moldova and expanding the bilateral partnership in various fields of common interest.

A delegation of members of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of Lithuania’s Seimas is paying a visit to Moldova on February 23-25. The delegation is headed by the Chair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Remigijus Motuzas.

The diplomatic relations between Moldova and Lithuania were established on 8 July 1992. To date, 49 bilateral agreements have been signed and are in force between the two countries.
