Foreign Ministry condemns two unauthorized overflights of Moldova’s airspace: Serious violation of sovereignty

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) strongly condemns the two unauthorized overflights of the airspace of the Republic of Moldova recorded today, September 21, amid the Russian Federation’s massive attacks on Ukraine.

According to the MFA, the first case involved the northern part of the country, including the districts of Dondușeni and Briceni, while the second occurred in southeastern Moldova, near the village of Palanca, Ștefan Vodă district.

The Ministry describes these repeated violations of the national airspace as “unacceptable” and emphasizes that they constitute a serious violation of the sovereignty of the Republic of Moldova and create direct risks to the security of its citizens.

The Republic of Moldova condemns the Russian Federation’s war of aggression against Ukraine and its consequences for regional security and stability,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

The two incidents occurred on the same day that the authorities of the Republic of Moldova reported violations of the national airspace amid Russian attacks on Ukraine.

The airspace of the Republic of Moldova was violated again during the night of September 20–21, amid the massive attacks launched by the Russian Federation against Ukraine. According to the Ministry of Defense, an unidentified aerial object illegally crossed the national airspace and was monitored by the surveillance systems of the Air Operations Service.

Another aerial object illegally entered the airspace of the Republic of Moldova on Monday, September 21, from the direction of Maiaki, Odesa region, and crossed the border near the village of Palanca, Ștefan Vodă district.
