Moldova seeks to continue excellent partnership with Romania after presidential elections too
The Moldovan authorities want to continue the ‘excellent’ partnership with Romania, even after the presidential elections, due in next in May. ‘’We have serious plans’’ with Romania, said President Maia Sandu. She expressed confidence that a politician with pro-European visions would be elected as the head of the Romanian state, to support Moldova's European integration path.
‘’We want to continue having an excellent partnership with Romania, to be able to rely on them, as we can count at present and in recent years. The last thing we want is to have partners in Bucharest receiving instructions from Moscow, but I very much hope that won't happen. Romania is a strong, democratic, pro-European state, but there are risks even for more consolidated democracies. I believe that citizens can mobilize and overcome these situations,’’ Maia Sandu said at Radio Moldova.
At the same time, the president listed the actions and projects that Moldova hopes to accomplish in partnership with Romania.
‘’We want a president with whom we can continue to work and rely on, who will promote further Moldova’s EU accession. We have serious plans to build bridges, construct a highway, achieve economic integration and make proper order at the customs, in order to avoid wasting so much time. For all these ambitious projects, we need a reliable partner,’’ added the head of state.
In Romania, presidential elections will take place on May 4 and 18, following the cancellation of the November 2024 elections by Romania's Constitutional Court. Eleven candidates have entered the race for Cotroceni.
