Moldovan parliament appointed two heads at BNM

Petru Rotaru was appointed on February 6 as First Vice Governor of the National Bank of Moldova (BNM), and Mihnea Constantinescu as Vice Governor of BNM. Most MPs present at the meeting voted for both candidates.

Thus, Rotaru will hold the position of First Vice Governor, Vice President of the Supervisory Board, and the Executive Committee at the National Bank of Moldova, for a term of seven years. Currently, he is the Vice Governor of the BNM and previously held positions as Minister of Finance, Director of the State Fiscal Service and member of the Court of Accounts.

Mihnea Constantinescu was also appointed for a seven-year term. He will serve as Vice Governor of the National Bank and member of the Executive Committee. Currently, he is an advisor to the Governor of the National Bank of Moldova, Anca-Dana Dragu. From 2019 to 2024, he was the head of research at the National Bank of Ukraine, and from 2014 to 2018, at the Bank of Lithuania. He has also taught and conducted research at universities in Amsterdam, Zurich, and New York.

The BNM is led by a Supervisory Board, consisting of seven members (three executives and four independents), and an Executive Committee, consisting of five members. The First Vice Governors and Governors of the BNM are appointed by the Parliament at the proposal of the Governor of the National Bank.
