Over 180,000 Moldovans voted in early hours of election

Over 180,000 citizens of the Republic of Moldova, about 7.2%, voted by 09:30, according to data provided by the Central Electoral Commission (CEC). The electoral process is proceeding without incidents, both domestically and abroad.

CEC President Angelica Caraman stated in a press briefing that all polling stations, both in the Republic of Moldova and in diaspora were opened at 07:00, and the early hours of the election proceeded under normal conditions, without irregularities.

The voting also began at 07:00 in the country and in over 30 polling stations in countries such as Japan, China, India, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Azerbaijan, Israel, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Turkey, as well as in European countries like Romania, Greece, Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. The polling stations abroad will remain open until 21:00 local time.

The CEC president reiterated that photographing the ballot and publishing images on social networks are offenses and can lead to criminal liability. Election campaigning is strictly prohibited on election day, including online.

According to the CEC, over 3,400 observers have been accredited to monitor today's election, with about 2,500 domestic and over 900 international observers. They can report any potential violations online through http://observator.cec.md.

Over 3.6 million ballots have been printed, of which 865,000 were allocated to polling stations outside the country. The ballot features 23 electoral competitors.
