Alegeri parlamentare 2025

Parliamentary elections have begun in the Republic of Moldova. The polling stations opened at 07:00, and over 3.2 million eligible voters are expected at the polls today to elect MPs for the 12th legislature of the Parliament.

The election will be validated if at least one-third of the registered voters participate in the voting. The voting process takes place between 07:00 and 21:00.

In total, 2,274 polling stations have been opened: 1,961 in the territory of the Republic of Moldova, including 12 for residents from the left bank of the Dniester, and 301 abroad, in 45 countries. Compared to the 2024 election, 69 additional stations have been established for direct voting.

The most polling stations will be organized in Italy – 75, Germany – 36, France – 26, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland – 24, and Romania – 23. Their locations can be found on the Commission's website and on diaspora.cec.md.

Voters can vote with their identity card, provisional ID, or passport, even if expired.

Students and adult pupils can vote in their place of study by presenting their identity document and student card, while those unable to travel due to health reasons can request a mobile ballot box by 14:00.

The ballot papers include 23 electoral competitors: 15 parties, four blocs, and four independent candidates. One electoral bloc has withdrawn from the race, and the registration of a political party was canceled by the Central Electoral Commission.

The Constitution of the Republic of Moldova states that the Parliament is composed of 101 deputies, elected through universal, equal, direct, secret, and freely expressed vote for a four-year mandate. The parliamentary elections are held based on a proportional system, in a single national constituency, in a single round.

Only the electoral competitors who exceed the threshold – 5% for parties, 7% for blocs, and 2% for independents – are eligible for the distribution of the 101 mandates. These are allocated according to the d’Hondt method, which involves dividing the obtained votes by a series of natural numbers, with mandates being allocated based on the highest results.

For the validation of the elections, a turnout of at least one-third of the voters registered on the electoral lists is required.
