President congratulated Moldovan citizens on year 2025
Chisinau, Dec 31 /MOLDPRES/- The year 2024 was a year with "many testing stones", but which opened many roads, President Maia Sandu said in a congratulatory message addressed to citizens on the occasion of 2025. The head of state urged citizens on the night between the years to answer a few questions and wished them peace, health and an "increasingly better" life.
The president emphasized that in 2024, Moldovan citizens have gone through complicated moments, but as a people they have managed to rejoice and bring out the things they are proud of. "Even when it was hard, we found room in our hearts for pride and gratitude for our country's achievements. Together we rejoiced in every medal brought home by our Olympians and athletes, every success of our pupils and students, every time a doctor saved a life or a teacher discovered potential in a pupil. We applauded together our musicians, our actors, our painters, our writers. We have bowed with reverence when a social worker, a policeman, a soldier, a civil servant, a journalist has honorably fulfilled his duty to the country," said Maia Sandu.
At the same time, the President noted that the year that ended has also shown the divisions that weaken us. "I would like today, on the night between years, to look in the mirror. As a country. To ask ourselves who we are as a nation. It's time for our country to look in the mirror and start loving what we see. Good and bad. To love is not to put off solving problems or deny their existence. It's just the opposite, only by loving your country can you truly solve challenges. This is the only way we can find bridges to each other and build together," she added.
It is a good opportunity for the people of Moldova to answer a few questions: Can we stop lamenting our fate? Can we stop blaming ourselves for the things that happen to us?
President Maia Sandu's full message addressed to the citizens of the Republic of Moldova on 2025:
Dear citizens,
We are ending a year that has put many testing stones in front of us, but it has also opened many paths. Usually, at the end of the year, we tend to leave all that we did not like behind and put forward the successes, but above all the hope for the better. And this year has been exactly that - through some very complicated times, we have managed as a people to rejoice and to highlight the things we are proud of.
Even when it was hard, we found room in our hearts for pride and gratitude for our country's achievements. Together we enjoyed every medal brought home by our Olympians and athletes, every success of our pupils and students, every time a doctor saved a life or a teacher discovered potential in a pupil. We applauded together our musicians, our actors, our painters, our writers.
At the same time, 2024 also showed us the divisions that weaken us. Let us put our finger on the wound and not be afraid of complicated questions. I would like today, on the night between years, to look in the mirror. As a country. To ask ourselves who we are as a nation. It is time for our country to look in the mirror and start loving what we see. Good and bad. To love is not to put off solving problems or deny their existence. It is just the opposite, only by loving your country can you truly solve challenges. Only then can we find bridges to each other and build together.
To live in peace, to be healthy, to have a better life, to leave our children a safe country where they have a future. And - most importantly - understanding that every Moldovan has his or her role to play in achieving this common national goal.
There are no perfect countries. Fairytale lands exist only in fairy tales. But we know there are countries that live better than we do. And we want to live like them. We decided together that we are going to the European Union. And we are on our way!
Can we stop lamenting our fate?
Can we stop blaming ourselves for the things that happen to us?
Can we stop distrusting our own country?
I believe we can. And we have shown the world how strong a united Moldova is. But I know for sure that to succeed, we need as many of us as possible who believe this. I urge you to see the New Year as a moment of unification of our nation.
Look at those you are with tonight. The community you are in is a mirror of our nation. They are people you love, respect, trust, want to raise children with, do business with, spend your old age with. We are among people with whom we want to build our country.
Dear Moldovans, wherever you are in the world, let us enter the New Year looking at each other with confidence. Let us enter 2025 with the belief that Moldova has a beautiful future, because it has a dignified, hard-working and humane people. Let us look at each other with gratitude!
I thank you all. I am proud of Moldova and of our Moldovans!
