President expresses solidarity with Germany following drone attack in Leipzig

President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu expressed her solidarity with Germany after authorities in Berlin held Russia responsible for last month’s drone attack on the Leipzig airport. The head of state said that such actions aim to test Europe’s limits and weaken support for Ukraine.

“Full solidarity with Germany. Attacks such as the one in Leipzig are intended to test Europe’s limits and undermine support for Ukraine,” Maia Sandu wrote on the X platform.

The president’s statement comes after German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt announced that information obtained by German security services and their partners points to Russian involvement. Dobrindt said that the methods used in the incident are similar to those identified in other Russian hybrid operations as well as in the war against Ukraine.

For his part, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said that Russia’s actions are part of a series of attempts at destabilization, disinformation, threats, and sabotage directed against Europe. Berlin announced the closure of the Russian Consulate in Bonn and the Russian House of Science and Culture in Berlin, as well as its intention to support tougher sanctions against Russia.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said that the evidence presented is clear and stated that Moscow’s attempts to intimidate European states and undermine their unity and willingness to support Ukraine “are in vain and will fail.”
