Moldova signed Convention on establishment of International Claims Commission for Ukraine

The Republic of Moldova, alongside other states, signed today the Convention on establishment of the International Claims Commission for Ukraine. Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi signed the document at the diplomatic conference in The Hague.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Convention provides for the creation of an International Claims Commission under the Council of Europe's platform, which constitutes a crucial mechanism for documenting abuses and ensuring compensation in the context of losses suffered by Ukraine.

As President of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, Popșoi highlighted the importance of this step in ensuring clear accountability of the Russian Federation for its aggression against Ukraine. The International Claims Commission represents not just a legal framework, but also a symbol of international solidarity and collective commitment to justice.

The Minister reaffirmed the Republic of Moldova's strong support for Ukraine and for international accountability mechanisms, including the Register of Damage, the operationalization of a Special Tribunal for Crimes of Aggression, and the functioning of the International Claims Commission. These elements represent central priorities of the Republic of Moldova's presidency at the CoE Committee of Ministers.

The Diplomatic Conference in The Hague brought together high-ranking representatives from the Council of Europe's member states and the European Union, marking a key moment in strengthening the international response to the Russian Federation's aggression against Ukraine.
