President: Russia’s attacks on Ukraine’s civilian energy infrastructure - war crime and attack on all of us

President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu has strongly condemned Russia’s attacks on Ukraine’s civilian energy infrastructure, stressing that these actions represent a war crime and an attack not only on Ukraine, but on the entire region.

Last night’s bombardments cut off Moldova’s vital energy connection with Europe, affecting the flow of electricity and endangering the country’s energy stability. Although alternative supply routes exist, the situation remains fragile and vulnerable.

“Responsibility for these attacks lies solely with Russia,” the President wrote.

Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu also noted that the overnight attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure put at risk the energy stability of the Republic of Moldova.

“Following Russia’s overnight attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, the Isaccea–Vulcănești power line was disconnected, once again endangering the energy stability of the Republic of Moldova. Alternative supply routes are in operation to prevent outages, but the situation remains fragile,” the Prime Minister wrote.

He noted that the authorities avoided a blackout after activating alternative supply routes to prevent power cuts, but risks persist in the context of regional instability.

In this context, consumers are urged to use electricity responsibly, especially during peak hours, in order to reduce pressure on the grids.
