Russian ambassador summoned to foreign ministry
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) expresses deep concern and strongly condemns the repeated violation of national airspace by drones launched following Russian attacks on infrastructure in southern Ukraine.
Under these conditions, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it has decided to urgently summon the Russian ambassador to Chisinau to request official explanations and to convey a firm protest against the unacceptable actions.
According to the MAE, such violations of the airspace of the Republic of Moldova are unacceptable and cannot be tolerated.
“These incidents represent a serious threat to security of our citizens and increased risks to regional stability. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported, but such violations of the airspace of the Republic of Moldova are unacceptable and cannot be tolerated,” MAE said.
The cited source also added that “the Republic of Moldova considers these actions a violation of its sovereignty and a risk to peace and security in the region.”
“We reiterate our strong call for the immediate cessation of these aggressions and strict compliance with international law,” MAE said.
On the night of 12-13 February, Border Police patrols reported several drones crossing the territory of the Republic of Moldova, and two of them crashed and exploded in uninhabited areas, one near Ciumai, Taraclia district, and another in a field about 1.5 kilometers from the town of Ceadîr-Lunga and Valea Perjei.
