About 1,900 people benefited from hip, knee replacement surgeries
Chisinau, August 23 /MOLDPRES/- About 1,900 hip and knee replacement operations were performed in the first semester of this year, with 180 more interventions compared to the same period last year.
According to the National Medical Insurance Company (CNAM), surgical interventions are carried out within the special locomotor prosthesis program, financed from the compulsory medical assistance insurance funds. For the cases treated in six months of the current year, CNAM allocated almost 114 million lei (around 5.7 million euros), over 38 million more than the same period last year.
Prosthetic operations of large joints (hip, knee, shoulder) are performed in 19 medical institutions contracted by CNAM - 14 public and five private.
All insured persons who have medical indications for such an operation and are on the waiting lists benefit from these interventions free of charge. At the same time, the waiting time for hip replacement operations has been reduced from 12 to 2-3 months.
This year, around 220 million lei are expected for prosthetic interventions of large joints.
