Central Moldova village example of local engagement in ecological transition, with investments in waste management, climate, reforestation
Residents of the Sireti village, central Straseni district, will benefit from a functional waste management system and a clean environment in the settlement. On this purpose, a truck for waste collection was purchased. Minister of Environment, Sergiu Lazarencu, who visited Sireti, has made statements to this effect.
With the support of the Environmental Fund, in 2024, the local authorities of Sireti developed a Climate Change Adaptation Plan, which will enable the attraction of European funds to manage risks associated with extreme weather phenomena.
As part of the same project, seven meteorological stations have been set, which provide farmers with accurate data for decision-making regarding crops and agricultural work, thus reducing losses caused by unpredictable weather.
In terms of environmental action, Sireti is also active in the reforestation process: a 13-hectare forest has already been planted and another 45 hectares are reserved for the expansion of the forest fund through the National Reforestation Programme.
“Such local investments are essential for the green future of Moldova. Sireti is a clear example that the ecological transition starts in communities, with concrete projects, undertaken and implemented for the benefit of citizens,” said Sergiu Lazarencu in Sireti.
The Sireti village is part of the 149 settlements selected for financing through a national waste management project supported by the Environmental Fund.
