
Chisinau-based medical university to launch national campaign on prevention of injuries, children's safety in traffic
Chisinau, 17 November /MOLDPRES/ - The Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy (USMF) will launch a national campaign titled, Prevention of injuries and safety of children in traffic, the 2023 edition.
The action is organized by the University’s Preventive Medicine Department, in partnership with the National Public Security Inspectorate, Office of the World Health Organization in Moldova and the Automobile Club of Moldova Organization.
The event will take place at the headquarters of the Gheorghe Asachi Romanian-French Theoretical Lyceum from Chisinau, on 20 November, starting from 09:00.
The action fits into the Global Road Safety Plan and the Decade of Action for Road Safety for 2021-2030, adopted by the United Nations Organization, through which Moldova committed to reduce the rate of deaths triggered by traffic accidents and of injuries by 50 per cent till 2030. At the same time, the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims is annually marked on the third Sunday of November; the road safety and the enhancement of the responsibility of all participants in the traffic is intensely promoted in this way.
The initiative is backed by the international project, iCREATE: Increasing Capacity in Research in Eastern Europe. The project is financed by the national health institutions from the USA and is aimed at enhancing the capacity of research and prevention of injuries and violence in three developing countries: Armenia, Georgia and Moldova.
