PHOTO // Minister of Finance spotted riding a scooter to work

Minister of Finance Andrian Gavriliță was noticed by the MOLDPRES team using a means of transport that is rather unusual for high officials. The minister left the Government building not in an official car, but on two wheels, opting for his personal scooter. We should use every opportunity to save money and time, and also to keep the environment cleaner, the official told MOLDPRES.

Right after Wednesday’s Cabinet meeting ended, the minister was seen in front of the Government building, where he had left his personal scooter parked. Without drawing attention, Gavriliță put on his protective helmet, checked his gear and headed towards Pușkin Street.

Although he holds one of the most demanding and responsible positions in the Government, the official seems to prefer urban mobility over getting stuck in Chișinău’s traffic jams. After leaving the area reserved for Government cars, Minister Gavriliță quickly merged into traffic and made his way to the Ministry of Finance.

Andrian Gavriliță admitted that his passion for alternative transport goes back some time, and that he recently gave up his official car in favor of his personal scooter.

The official emphasized that this is a choice that allows people to save money and time, while also protecting the environment.

"I’ve had a passion for alternative transport for quite a while, and recently I also gave up my official car in favor of my personal scooter. I believe we should use every opportunity to save money and time, and also to keep the environment cleaner," Andrian Gavriliță said.

Riding scooters has become an increasingly common practice among politicians in major European capitals, given the growing traffic during rush hours. At the same time, it is a symbolic gesture of support for the environment. Recently, Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu requested that public authorities and budget-funded institutions introduce strict spending controls and review their procurement plans for 2026.

The measure was introduced against the backdrop of a tense international economic context, with mounting pressure on energy and fuel prices.
