DOC // Greenhouse gas emissions data to be verified by independent experts

Greenhouse gas emissions data will be verified by independent, officially accredited experts, based on strict requirements regarding competence, independence, and impartiality. The new rule is set forth in the Regulation on accreditation and requirements applicable to greenhouse gas emissions verifiers, which was published today in the Official Journal.

The Regulation establishes the necessary framework for the independent verification of greenhouse gas emissions data, within the context of the operation of the national monitoring, reporting, verification, and accreditation system, developed as part of the Republic of Moldova’s preparation for the implementation of economic decarbonization mechanisms.

The application of the new Regulation and the accreditation of independent experts will ensure more accurate and comparable data on emission levels and will strengthen the credibility of the national monitoring, reporting, verification, and accreditation system.

For citizens, the new mechanism will contribute to greater transparency regarding sources of pollution and strengthen the authorities’ capacity to monitor and reduce the impact of emissions on the environment and public health.

The Government’s decision approving the Regulation enters into force today, upon its publication in the Official Journal of the Republic of Moldova.

Once the Regulation enters into force, the Environmental Agency will ensure the system’s implementation, and the Environmental Protection Inspectorate will monitor compliance with its provisions.
