Early intervention center for children opened in south Moldova town
An early intervention center for children was opened in the southern Cimislia town today. This is a new subdivision of the district hospital, aimed at supporting children with developmental disorders or at risk of developing such disorders.
The inauguration event was attended by Minister of Health Ala Nemerenco, representatives of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Moldova, the Embassy of Germany in Chisinau, Lumos Moldova organization, local public administration, as well as the center's team, parents and beneficiaries.
“Although the Center in Cimislia is not the first of its kind in Moldova, its inauguration marks an important step in expanding the early intervention network. We have made considerable efforts, and presently, we already have 14 functional centers which provide medical assistance to children with developmental or delay-related difficulties. Specialists of these centers make a full assessment of each child's condition and needs, based on which they develop an individualized intervention plan, tailored to the specific needs of each beneficiary. The teams in the centers are multidisciplinary, consisting of pediatricians, physiotherapists, therapists, other medical workers and psycho-pedagogues, who work closely with parents. This collaboration is essential, in order to provide children with the necessary support for harmonious development. We are determined to continue this mission. Every child deserves a chance for a better life and by developing these centers, we make sure that support is timely and qualitative,” said Ala Nemerenco.
The center from Cimislia is part of the national early intervention network, coordinated by the Ministry of Health, which currently comprises 14 such units. In 2024, over 5,700 children and their families benefited from multidisciplinary support at these institutions.
The centers provide over 40 types of specialized services, including psychological support, development-focused pediatric evaluations, speech therapy, physiotherapy, psycho-pedagogical counseling, as well as early language and sensory development stimulation. All services are free and are covered by the mandatory health insurance system, based on contracts with the National Health Insurances Company (CNAM).
The Ministry of Health informs about the continuous expansion of the early intervention network, according to the 2023-2027 National Plan. New centers are currently being developed in Chisinau (Territorial Medical Association Center) and Anenii Noi.
