Moldovan Police to be reorganized
Today the Parliament adopted a bill that restructures the Police of the Republic of Moldova, establishing three regional divisions - North, Center, and South, and maintaining territorial divisions in Chișinău and Gagauzia.
The document, developed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, aims to reduce administrative expenses by about 8% and improve the quality and accessibility of police services.
The leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs assured that no police officer will be laid off; personnel will be redistributed to subdivisions facing a shortage of human resources.
The document also delineates the competences of the Police and the General Inspectorate of Carabineers (IGC): police officers will be responsible for maintaining public order and security, while carabineers will ensure and restore it. Upon request from the IGC, the Police may intervene to ensure order in crisis situations.
An amendment by Deputy Ana Racu was adopted in the second reading, which stipulates that the Police's maximum staffing level be set by Government decision.
