
European Public Prosecutor's Office to support institutions of Moldova in fight against corruption, European Chief Prosecutor says
Chisinau, 14 July /MOLDPRES/ - The European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) will support the institutions of Moldova in the fight against corruption. European Chief Prosecutor Laura Codruta Kövesi made statements to this effect at a meeting with the director of the National Anticorruption Centre (CNA), Iulian Rusu, in Chisinau today.
According to CNA, attending the meeting was the leadership of the Intelligence and Security Service, National Integrity Agency, the service for the prevention and combating of money laundering, as well as other competent institutions.
At the discussions, CNA head Iulian Rusu said that, ‘’in the fight against corruption, it is essential that the authorities ensuring the supremacy of law join their efforts and to advance in the investigation of corruption cases and recover the assets transferred abroad, it is necessary to cooperate with prosecutors from other jurisdictions.’’
At the same time, the EPPO leadership stressed that the starting of joint inquiries would prove that there is wish, courage and determination on behalf of the authorities in the fight against corruption. ‘’You have to work a lot as you advance in the European integration, especially as you are to supervise also the use by Moldova of the European funds. In this respect, you have every support of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office,’’ Laura Codruta Kövesi said.
European Chief Prosecutor Laura Codruta Kövesi pays an official visit to Chisinau on 12-14 July. During the visit, the European Chief Prosecutor had meetings with President Maia Sandu, Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita, Justice Minister Sergiu Litvinenco, as well as other officials.
