Moldova's National Health Insurance Company warns about new online fraud attempt: scammers promise refunds, request personal data
The National Health Insurance Company (CNAM) is warning citizens about a new online fraud attempt, in which scammers use the institution’s name to request personal and banking data.
According to CNAM, citizens receive fake messages, in which they are promised money refunds, with specific amounts indicated. To “confirm the refund,” recipients are urged to access suspicious links and enter personal or banking information.
The institution emphasizes that these messages are fake and are not sent by CNAM employees.
“CNAM employees do not contact citizens by email or through social networks, including WhatsApp, Viber, Messenger or Telegram, to request personal or banking data and do not send links for the ‘confirmation’ of refunds,” CNAM specifies.
In the context, citizens are urged not to access the links received in such messages, not to provide personal or banking data, to delete the messages and to block the senders. Suspicious cases must be reported to the competent authorities.
Official information about mandatory health insurance is published exclusively on CNAM’s institutional channels. For accurate information, citizens can visit the institution’s official website or call the CNAM Info Service at 0 800 99999.
