European Union strengthens support for Moldova's security
The European Union reaffirms its firm support for Moldova’s security by delivering a new batch of modern equipment meant for public order and national defense institutions. The presentation event took place during an official visit to Chisinau by the Vice-President of the European Commission, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas.
The event brought together representatives of the Interior Ministry, the Ministry of Defense, the European Union’s Delegation to Moldova and high-ranking state officials.
The equipment presented at the festive event was purchased through the Integrated Response Mechanism for Ukraine and the European Peace Facility. Today, the following things were presented: special vehicles, bulletproof vests, drones, an intervention robot, modern ambulances, a field hospital and a mobile command center.
"These interventions significantly contribute to strengthening the response capabilities of Moldova in the face of increasingly complex hybrid threats," said Interior Minister Daniella Misail-Nichitin.
For his part, Minister of Defense Anatolie Nosatii emphasized the impact of European investments on the defense sector.
"Since 2021, Moldova has benefited from financial support amounting to 7 million euros for defense, through the European Peace Facility. Today, we saw the concrete results of this cooperation," the defense minister noted.
In her speech, Kaja Kallas reiterated the EU’s long-term commitment.
"Defense is not just about soldiers. It means protecting civilians, ensuring communication and quick interventions in crisis situations. Since 2022, we have provided 197 million euros to Moldova and we will continue this support," the official said.
Through the European Peace Facility, the European Union provides essential support to Moldova, in order to face the challenges triggered by Russia's aggression war against Ukraine. This support includes tactical equipment, such as bulletproof vests, helmets, special vehicles and a mobile medical unit.
