Foreign ministry warns of wildfire risks in Turkey, Greece
Chisinau, July 1 /MOLDPRES/- Moldovan citizens who are in, transit through or intend to travel to the Republic of Turkey and the Hellenic Republic are warned about the wildfire risks in summer period.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE), so far in Turkey there have been 44 outbreaks of wildfires, 30 of them in rural areas and 14 in forest areas.
"Very high temperatures during this period increase the risk of fires. Thus, very high temperatures will be recorded in certain areas of the country, and there will be a high risk of vegetation fires in the future," it said.
In this context, the MAE advises Moldovan citizens to check the weather conditions and official warnings issued by the authorities before planning their travel; exercise caution in the affected areas; closely monitor local media and announce their presence in the risk areas by contacting the diplomatic missions/consular offices of the Republic of Moldova in Turkey and Greece; ensure that they have sufficient fuel, water and food supplies and keep their mobile means of communication operational.
"In case of telephone alerts about outbreaks of fires in the area you are in, follow the instructions of local authorities and representatives of hotel establishments," the MAE said.
