Mircea Eșanu on nomination to lead Moldova Project: More information could become known in October

Mircea Eșanu, director of the Public Service Agency (ASP), has provided explanations regarding the position of director of the future Moldova Project institution. The official said that for now, he has no information about the institution’s budget, sources of funding or the remuneration of its management. According to Eșanu, the institution has not yet been established by a Government decision, and the details are expected to be clarified in the coming period.

Asked about 38.5 million lei allocated for 26 employees and the level of remuneration within Moldova Project, amid the government’s policy of reducing spending in public institutions, Mircea Eșanu said that he could not provide any additional explanations for the time being.


“Unfortunately, I cannot tell you more than what the prime minister has stated. I am going to hand over the baton to the next head of the ASP. I am honored by this nomination and proposal. I prefer to view it now in different ways, either as a promotion or as a way of keeping a very busy person occupied,” Mircea Eșanu said.


He noted that he had not yet seen the institution’s draft budget and that, according to the information he has, Moldova Project has not yet been officially approved.


“At this stage, I have not seen the budget either; as far as I know, the institution itself has not yet been approved. When I get there, I will certainly provide all the necessary explanations. At the moment, it is beyond my remit,” the ASP director said.


Asked whether he had discussed the details of the position with the authorities, including the remuneration he would receive as director, Eșanu replied that he had not.


“No. Not even the remuneration I will receive. I understand that this remuneration must correspond to the amounts that are to be managed. At this stage, I can tell you that I know as much as you do,” Eșanu stated.


According to him, discussions about the budget and sources of funding are premature, as the institution has not yet been established through a Government decision.


“For now, we are discussing something entirely hypothetical, because the institution has not yet been created or approved through Government decisions. I do not know the sources of funding at this point; there may be several. Therefore, I believe it is premature to discuss this matter. I do not have any more details at this stage,” Mircea Eșanu explained.


Regarding the timeline, the ASP director said that more information could become available in October.


“I believe it will be much clearer over the course of next month. Based on my discussions with the prime minister, I should join the new institution during October. The exact date will depend on the government procedures,” Eșanu said.


The statements were made after the presentation of the new passport model for citizens of the Republic of Moldova, an event during which the Public Services Agency also presented its activity report for the past five years.
