Model Bulgarian language classroom opened at lyceum in Gagauz autonomy

A model Bulgarian language classroom has been inaugurated at the Theoretical Lyceum Valentin Moskov in the municipality of Ceadar-Lunga, Autonomous Territorial Unit (UTA) of Gagauzia. It is equipped with an interactive whiteboard, modern furniture, as well as educational resources, dictionaries, posters, fiction literature, textbooks and historical maps.

The project is implemented by the Association for the Development of the Bulgarian Community of Moldova, with the support of the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Bulgaria, the Embassy of Bulgaria in Chisinau and the Ministry of Education and Research (MEC).

The head of the Policies Service in the field of interethnic relations at MEC, Ivan Duminica, noted that supporting the Bulgarian language in educational institutions attended by students of Bulgarian ethnicity was a priority, in the context of promoting linguistic and cultural diversity in Moldova.

“The creation of these classrooms contributes to the development of students’ linguistic competences in their mother tongue and to the enhancement of ethnic identity in the educational system. At the same time, these investments provide modern conditions for teaching and learning, encourage students’ interest and help strengthen intercultural dialogue and social cohesion,” said Ivan Duminica.

According to the Ministry of Education and Research, this year it is planned to open model Bulgarian language classrooms at the Gymnasium in the village of Svetlii (UTA Gagauzia) and at the Theoretical Lyceum Vasil Levski in the municipality of Chisinau. The investment amounts to 17,900 euros.

The creation of Bulgarian language classrooms in educational institutions of  Moldova, attended by students of Bulgarian ethnicity, is a project launched in 2024. Such classrooms have already been opened at the General Ivan Inzov Gymnasium in the town of Taraclia, as well as in the theoretical lyceums of Tvardita, Corten and Valea Perjei, Taraclia district.
