Deputy Prime Minister meets with new Ambassador of Japan to Chișinău

Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi had a meeting today with new Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Moldova Takeuchi Kazuyuki. The discussions focused on strengthening the Moldovan-Japanese political dialogue, expanding economic cooperation and harnessing opportunities to deepen the bilateral partnership in areas such as infrastructure, energy, digitalization and institutional development.

Mihai Popșoi thanked the Japanese side for supporting our country, including the contribution to strengthening resilience and supporting the European integration path. The official also highlighted the important contribution of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to the implementation of development projects in the Republic of Moldova, including in strengthening institutional capacities and modernizing key sectors.

“Japan is a reliable partner of the Republic of Moldova, and our bilateral cooperation has significant development potential. We aim to harness new opportunities for collaboration for the benefit of our citizens,” Popșoi said.

The sides also emphasized the importance of maintaining an active political dialogue and intensifying high-level contacts.

Popșoi wished Ambassador Takeuchi Kazuyuki success in carrying out his mandate in the Republic of Moldova.

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Moldova and Japan were established on 16 March 1992. At present, the bilateral legal framework comprises over 40 agreements.
