Moldova, Japan to implement meteorology field project
Chisinau, 11 July /MOLDPRES/ – The State Hydrometeorological Service (SHS) and the Japan Meteorological Association (JWA) signed today a joint declaration of intent in Chisinau that provides for an efficient collaboration between the two institutions.
The document establishes and encourages bilateral cooperation for the exchange of experience and training of specialists, pooling research, organizing internships and improving meteorological technologies, using modern meteorological radar collection and processing software.
"The joint declaration of intent is a result of the collaboration of the specialists from Japan and our country, the foundation of which was put in October 2016. With the support of our Japanese colleagues, we hope to increase the potential of the Hydrometeorological Service in Chisinau. It is a project in which several scientific and research activities will be undertaken," said Inga Podoroghin, State Secretary of the Environment Ministry, at the signing ceremony.
"The JWA was created in 1950, and over the years we have accumulated experience that we are ready to share with our colleagues in Moldova. We have relevant results in the field of forecasting, disaster prevention, we have implemented several high-precision programs for good environmental management. All this will be of real use in the Republic of Moldova, the economy of which suffers the consequences of climatic changes manifested under different forms of weather," said Nobumichi Furuichi, Director of the Japan Meteorological Association.
At her turn, First Deputy Director of the State Hydrometeorological Service, Violeta Balan, said that the new agreement would be part of a series of projects developed by SHS with the support of international partners. "We intend to make the most of the Service's use, in accordance with the rules of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), to which we are part. First of all, we plan to strengthen the system of observations that will improve the forecasting of weather and possible disasters," said Violeta Balan.
The Moldovan-Japanese cooperation project on meteorology will last for three years.
