Moldova to join Hague Convention
The Republic of Moldova will officially join the Convention for the Pacific Settlement of International Disputes, signed in The Hague in 1907. Minister of Justice Veronica Mihailov-Moraru made the statement today.
Through the accession, Moldova will have access to mechanisms such as mediation, conciliation, inquiry and international arbitration via the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA).
“The accession shows Moldova's firm desire to support peace and security worldwide and to strengthen its role in international relations, both diplomatically and legally. In a global context increasingly affected by conflicts, involvement in mechanisms that promote the peaceful resolution of disputes is important. Alongside the 124 countries already members, including all European Union states, Moldova joins global efforts to defend international law and maintain peace,” wrote the minister.
Additionally, our country will be able to appoint its own arbitrators within the international institution.
The Convention is a cornerstone treaty in international law, establishing clear procedures for the peaceful resolution of disputes between states and preventing the use of force.
So far, 124 countries have joined, including the European Union member states.
